God is Able

<!–[if !mso]>st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } <![endif]–>All you have to do is look in the night sky to see the greatness of God.

In 1962, the year I was born, John Glenn was the first man to orbit the earth. As a senior citizen, he got to ride on the space shuttle in 1998. And he said: To look up out at this kind of creation and not believe in God to me is impossible.
All of science believes to some extent the opening section of the Bible…in the beginning was nothing, then BANG…something. But not just something small, like an apostrophe, or the head of a pin. But something really, really BIG.

How big? I thought you’d never ask.

Our own sun is one of 200 to 400 billion stars in the Milky Way. The Milky Way is big.

Tadpole Galaxy – it will never, ever turn into a frog.
It just looks like a tadpole. In case you were confused.

You may have seen this picture in the last few years. It’s a picture of the Tadpole Galaxy. Scientists have spotted another 6,000 galaxies in the background. And each of those galaxies has 200 to 400 billions stars (like our sun). That’s really big.

And there are some one hundred billion galaxies. That’s ridiculously big. Makes me feel quite small.

But the prophet Isaiah looked up at that same  sky, and said
Lift your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? HE who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of HIS great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” Isaiah 40:26 (NIV).
God is big. And He is able. Always able.
What problem is confronting you today? God is able.
What stain is on your life that you can’t shake? God is able.
What heart ache is robbing you of your joy? God is able.
What what direction, what wisdom, what help do you need? God is able.

Whatever challenge you face, whatever is bringing you low – speak these words to your soul:
God is big. And God is able. Always able. Amen.
Pastor David
